Grounding to develop intuition.

Priscilla Ingold—

I've gone through many phases on my spiritual awakening path.
I remember that, at first, I did something I call spiritual bypassing: I disconnected from the material world and placed myself in a mindset where I made an enormous effort not to feel intense emotions with the potential to overwhelm me.
The problem was that, even though I believed I was doing great spiritual work, I was actually avoiding the true path of transformation that a spiritual awakening proposes.
We uproot ourselves, or block our connection with the material world, because it hurts too much.
The reality the world offers today hurts too much. Past and present experiences hurt too much. Keeping up with a mind that announces and anticipates disastrous futures hurts too much.
We avoid. We'd rather not look at what hurts. We do it in a thousand ways: too much social media, too many TV shows, too much food, too much shopping, too much tobacco or alcohol... even too much sex and too many hours of sleep. The relentless pursuit of immediate pleasure, of the dopamine that makes me forget, even for a second, that being embodied means experiencing the whole range of emotions.
But to grow and transcend the pain, we need to look at it, breathe it, let it pass through the body, and let ourselves go in the process.
At first, on this path, I developed my intuition from a purely mental perspective. That's how I'd acted for as long as I could remember: rationalising everything.
I remember it was a sentence from my mother, in response to a project I had and wanted to carry out to free myself from a reality that oppressed and imprisoned me, that had an extreme effect on me.
It was as if she pulled out the flying carpet I was soaring high on, and I began to fall at dizzying speed, nose-diving until I crashed into the ground and, perhaps, hollowed out the earth into a more or less deep well.
Right there, only then, my true spiritual awakening began, and little by little I've learned to ground myself in order to become a real channel for valuable information.
Today I know I'm a channel that expresses the information it receives in multiple forms. Forms that make my soul vibrate with joy and grace: communicating by speaking, sharing, dancing, singing, writing, painting.
I'm still developing my capacity to ground myself. I take it as the opportunity to build a bond with the Great Mother Earth, who receives me into her and loves me unconditionally. I try to feel my connection with her through my root chakra and my feet, and I try to feel her energy and her love rising through my body to settle in my heart, activating that compassionate, unconditional love within me.
It may be a lifelong training. So be it.
